About the Studio

Ambulante Design Studio is deeply influenced by Latino urban culture, which has shaped our unique design approach. Rooted in our life and upbringing in LA, and enriched by extensive travels throughout Mexico and Latin America, we draw inspiration from both ancient pre-Columbian ruins and modern Latin American cities. Our multidisciplinary approach celebrates Latino aesthetics, including tattoos, lowriders, music, attire, food, and murals/graffiti. We focus on integrating public art and design as essential elements of the urban fabric, collaborating with local artists to create over 20 public artworks across LA County. Through our work, we explore and honor the vibrant Latino American landscape and culture.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Raymond Gutirrez began his academic journey at Woodbury University, graduating in 1997 with a degree in architecture. He immediately immersed himself in the field, working as an intern and associate designer at ADOBE (Artists & Designers Opening the Borders Edge) in LA from 1997 to 1999. Following this, he joined CWA, where he worked from 1999 to 2001.

Furthering his education, he attended Sci-Arc from 2002 to 2003, earning a graduate degree. Post-graduation, he spent a year with PMA Architects and then two years with Jeff Roberts & Associates. From 2004 to 2009, he served as the national coordinator for CLEA (Coordinador de Latinoamérica Estudiantes de Arquitectura), where he played a crucial role in connecting Latin American architecture students. His involvement led to advising the International Body of Architecture Students and Alumni, helping organize the annual Latin American architecture conference in 2009.

Since 2009, he has worked independently and consulting numerous public city art projects in Los Angeles, blending his design expertise with a passion for public art.
